Jackie's White House

Queen's Sitting Room

Although Jackie's influence on the White House is of historic record (the White House Historical Association, the White House Guide Book, etc.), little of her original decor remains.

The one remaining room basically unchanged from Jackie's 1960s design is the Queen's Sitting Room on the NW corner of the second floor.

Jackie worked with Stephane Boudin on the room. They chose a heavy blue and white cotton fabric with a printed neoclassical pattern of garlands, cherubs and flowers. Jackie approved of the heavy use of the same fabric on the walls, curtains and furniture.

A set of black lacquer furniture and a daybed anchor the room.

The room has seen minor alteration, other than changing the rug, less art on the walls and a different dressing mirror, over the years.

Lady Bird Johnson often used the room for meetings and Pat Nixon used the room for her cover photograph for a 1972 Life Magazine story.

Unless the Obama's have made changes, the Queen's Sitting Room stands today as a tribute to Jackie's personal style and design.
