Paul House, Palm Beach (UPI)
The President leased (or was loaned) the oceanfront mansion of C. Michael and Josephine Paul in Palm Beach during 1961-63. It provided he and Jackie with some privacy - away from the hectic goings on of his parent's place in Palm Beach - about a mile away. Several charming Christmas and Easter photographs were taken at the Paul estate. It was here that JFK met with Golda Meir in Dec. 1962. A special bomb shelter was built nearby the Paul House on Peanut Island (just in case). Jackie would stay here during the Dec. 1963 holidays after the assassination. From Time Magazine: Dec. 15, 1961: Come Christmas, Jack and Jackie Kennedy plan to spend their holiday in a white Palm Beach mansion (on North County Road) on loan from old family friends: C. (for Captin) Michael Paul, 59, and his wife Josephine, 60. The home is a showpiece, with eight bedrooms, nine servants' rooms, a loggia filled with tropical greenery, a 72-ft. heated swimming pool, an ocean-view terrace and 400 ft. of beach. Its owners are every bit as remarkable: between them, the Pauls own major stock interests in a big brokerage house, oil wells and real estate.
